TRON wallet activation: why a new address needs TRX

A new TRON address exists only on your device until it receives its first transaction. Activation records the address on the network. After that, it can receive Energy, use free Bandwidth and send USDT.

An address is usually activated by its first incoming TRX transfer. If your address is not activated yet, activation can be added to the Energy order for an extra 1.5 TRX.

What "address not activated" means

When you create a wallet, the app generates a key pair and an address. The TRON network knows nothing about this address yet. There is no account record on the blockchain.

Such an address can receive funds. But it cannot use resources: it has no free Bandwidth, and Energy cannot be delegated to it. You cannot send USDT from an address that is not activated.

The account record appears when the address receives its first transaction, for example a TRX transfer. The network charges the account creation fee to the sender of that transaction.

How to tell if an address is activated

1. Paste the address into the address check. The checker shows the activation status.
2. Or open the address in TronScan. If the account is not activated, it will have no transaction history and no resources.

A TRON address starts with the letter T and has 34 characters. If the address has a different format, it is not a TRON address.

When you actually need activation

The last row is a common mix-up. You do not need to activate someone else's address. But the first USDT transfer to an address without USDT needs about 131,000 Energy, not 65,000.

Three ways to activate an address

Method 1. Send TRX to the address

Withdraw a little TRX from an exchange or ask someone to send some. The first incoming transaction activates the address. The TRX stays with you and will be useful for buying Energy.

Method 2. Activation together with an Energy order

If the address is not activated, the checker will offer to add activation to the order. It costs 1.5 TRX. The service activates the address and then delegates Energy.

Method 3. Activation without Energy

If you only need an active address, order a separate address activation by invoice.

What happens after activation

1. The address appears on the network and in TronScan.
2. Every day it gets about 600 units of free Bandwidth. One USDT transfer needs about 350.
3. Energy can be delegated to the address. A USDT transfer uses ~65,000 Energy to an address with USDT or ~131,000 to a new address or exchange.
4. Without Energy, the network burns TRX: ~6.85 TRX or ~13.35 TRX per transfer.

How to send your first USDT from a new address

1. Check the address in the checker.
2. If the address is not activated, add activation (1.5 TRX) or send TRX to it.
3. Get Energy. Through the instant purchase: 2.5 TRX for one transfer to an address with USDT, 5 TRX for a new address or exchange. Send TRX from this same address, not from an exchange.
4. Wait 3–10 seconds and send the USDT within an hour.

A common mistake: paying for Energy from an exchange

Sometimes people try to "wake up" a new address by paying for Energy straight from an exchange. This does not work. Energy goes to the address the TRX came from, which is the exchange address.

The right order is this. First, TRX arrives on your address, which activates it. Then you pay for Energy from your address. Or you choose an order with activation, and the service does everything in one step.
