How to send USDT from Tangem without overpaying

To send USDT from Tangem without burning ~6.85–13.35 TRX on the fee, get Energy on your TRON address in advance. To do that, send 2.5 TRX from Tangem (or 5 TRX for a new address or exchange) through the instant purchase.

In 3–10 seconds the Energy will be on the address. Then send USDT as usual and confirm the transaction with your card.

Why Tangem takes so much TRX

Tangem is a non-custodial wallet. The fee is set by the TRON network, not the app.

A USDT TRC-20 transfer uses Energy. The network has no free Energy. If the address has none, the network burns TRX:

Step by step: sending USDT from Tangem with Energy

Step 1. Find your TRON address

1. Open the Tangem app and choose TRON (TRX) or USDT on the TRON network.
2. Tap "Receive" and copy the address. It starts with the letter T and has 34 characters.

In Tangem, TRX and USDT on the TRON network share the same address.

Step 2. Check the address

Paste the address into the address check. The checker shows the TRX balance, Energy, Bandwidth and whether the address is activated. If you want to know for sure whether you need 65,000 or 131,000 Energy, enter the recipient address too.

Step 3. Send TRX for Energy

1. On the instant purchase page, copy the payment address or scan the QR code.
2. In Tangem, open TRX and tap "Send".
3. Paste the payment address and the amount: exactly 2.5 TRX, 5 TRX or 7.5 TRX.
4. Confirm by holding your Tangem card to the phone.

You need to send from this exact Tangem address. Energy goes to the address the TRX came from.

Step 4. Wait for the Energy

Energy arrives in 3–10 seconds. On the purchase page you will see the status "Energy is on the address. You can send USDT".

Step 5. Send the USDT

1. In Tangem, open USDT (TRON) and tap "Send".
2. Paste the recipient address and compare the first and last 4 characters.
3. Enter the amount and confirm with your card.

Energy lasts 1 hour. Send the transfer within that time; unused Energy is not refunded.

If Tangem has no TRX

The instant purchase works by sending TRX. If the address has no TRX:

• withdraw a little TRX from an exchange to your Tangem address, then pay for Energy from Tangem;
• or use a one-time rental paid by invoice from another wallet. See pricing.

Do not pay for Energy directly from an exchange. The Energy would go to the exchange address.

If the address has never received TRX, it may not be activated. In that case, address activation is added to the order for 1.5 TRX.

Common mistakes

• Bought 65,000 for a new address. The first transfer to an address without USDT, or to an exchange, needs ~131,000. Choose 5 TRX.
• Sent the wrong amount. The tiers are fixed: 2.5, 5 or 7.5 TRX. If you sent a different amount, contact support.
• Waited too long. Energy lasts 1 hour.
• The transfer already failed. Burned TRX is not returned. Get Energy and repeat the transfer. More in FAILED – OUT OF ENERGY.

Is it safe for the Tangem card?

Yes. An Energy service needs only your public address. Your private key stays in the card's chip and never leaves it.
