Trust Wallet asks for 28 TRX: where the amount comes from and what to do

Trust Wallet checks that the balance has about 28 TRX before it allows a USDT TRC-20 transfer. It does this even when Energy is already on the address. This is a wallet rule, not a TRON network rule.

A transfer with Energy costs almost nothing in TRX. So there are three ways forward: keep a reserve of about 28 TRX, get Energy in advance so the reserve is not burned, or send from a wallet without this restriction.

Where 28 TRX comes from

Trust Wallet does not publish the exact formula. But the amount makes sense if you look at the network's price history.

In the past, before the burn price was lowered, a USDT transfer without Energy cost 14–28 TRX. The upper end of that range matches the reserve. The wallet seems to check the balance with a margin for the worst case, so the transaction does not fail.

Burning is cheaper now:

So 28 TRX is a reserve, not a fee. The wallet wants it on the balance, but does not necessarily spend it.

Will my 28 TRX be burned

It depends on whether there is Energy on the address.

• No Energy. The network burns ~6.85 TRX (address with USDT) or ~13.35 TRX (new address). The rest stays on the balance.
• Energy is there. The network uses the Energy and barely touches the TRX. At most, a little goes to Bandwidth if the free daily allowance of about 600 units has run out.

What to do: three options

Option 1. Keep the reserve and save on Energy

Suits you if you use Trust Wallet regularly.

1. Keep about 28 TRX on the balance. These are your coins, they do not go anywhere.
2. Before the transfer, check the address.
3. Through the instant purchase, send 2.5 TRX (65,000 Energy) or 5 TRX (131,000 Energy) from that same Trust Wallet address.
4. In 3–10 seconds the Energy is on the address. Send the USDT.

The reserve stays in place and nothing is burned.

Option 2. If you have less than 28 TRX

The wallet will not let you tap "Send" while the balance is below the reserve. Energy does not lift this block.

What you can do:

• top up TRX to the required level from an exchange or another wallet;
• import the same address into a wallet without this check and send from there.

Option 3. Send from another wallet

Your Trust Wallet seed phrase works in other non-custodial TRON wallets. The address stays the same, and so does the USDT. For example, TronLink usually has no 28 TRX check: Energy and Bandwidth are enough. Step by step in the guide first transfer in TronLink.

Enter your seed phrase only in the official wallet app. Never on websites, in chats or in "support" forms. We do not need your seed phrase: Energy only needs your public address.

Common mistakes

• Bought Energy, but the balance is below 28 TRX. The Energy is on the address, but the wallet still blocks the transfer. Top up TRX or send from another wallet.
• Paid for Energy from an exchange. The Energy goes to the exchange address. Send TRX only from the Trust Wallet address the USDT will be sent from.
• Sent to a new address with 65,000 Energy. The first transfer to an address without USDT needs ~131,000. Choose 5 TRX for it.

How to check that the Energy arrived

Trust Wallet does not always show TRON resources. It is more reliable to open your address in TronScan: the Resources tab shows delegated Energy, and the transactions list shows a DelegateResource record. Details in how to check Energy in TronScan.

FAQ

Can I turn off the 28 TRX check in the settings? The wallet has no such setting. The check is built into the sending logic.

If I keep 28 TRX, why do I need Energy? Without Energy, each transfer burns part of that TRX: ~6.85 or ~13.35 TRX. With Energy, the reserve stays whole and the transfer costs 2.5 or 5 TRX.

How long does Energy take after payment? Usually 3–10 seconds. Energy lasts 1 hour.
